CINQUE TERRE and not only...Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore. The Cinque Terre, a true natural paradise and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites since 1997, the Protected Marine Area of the Cinque Terre since 1998 and a National Park since 1999.
Monterosso is the largest town in the Cinque Terre; made up of two inhabited areas, the old town and Fegina (the real tourist resort), it has two beautiful beaches. It overlooks a small bay and stretches back westwards as far as Punta Mesco. It is surrounded by hills falling down towards the sea which years of human toil have transformed into olive groves, lemon orchards and vineyards, the grapes from which are used to make the famous passito wine, known as sciacchetrà. Vernazza is considered the most enchanting village of the Cinque Terre and the largest tourist attraction. Corniglia is the only village in the Cinque Terre which is not in direct contact with the sea. It is a sort of suspended balcony, which is linked to the sea and the railway by the “Lardarina”, a spectacular stairway with 377 steps. Manarola, a frazione of the municipality of Riomaggiore, with its tower houses is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cinque Terre. A pleasant path leads from Manarola to Volastra, a hamlet located 300 masl, an ideal place for those who love peace and quiet and long walks; Volastra is in fact a junction between all the various footpaths running through the Cinque Terre. Riomaggiore has a vertical layout and its amalgamation of houses and rocks, sun and sea, vineyards and olive groves, streets and squares, have been the inspiration to many an artist, poet, musician and painter. 
BY TRAIN: on the Genoa - La Spezia line, all the villages of the Cinque Terre have their own station. BY CAR: on the A15 Parma - La Spezia motorway, take the La Spezia exit or the Brugnato exit on the A12 Genoa - Rome motorway.
